Green Thumb

Plants by J

When I'm not wrangling climate data, I'm growing plants. Here's the other side of my work.

The Story

How it started

Plants remain one of my main hobbies, and Plants by J is now a way for me to connect with other growers around unique plants. I've always been fascinated by plants — the biology, the propagation, the patience required to grow something from seed or cutting into a thriving specimen. I'm currently in year 5 of a tomato breeding project, which is one of my favorite ongoing experiments.

Plants by J is where I make some of those plants available, from rare tropical aroids to garden herbs, berries, and fruit trees. I handle the propagation and the full-stack e-commerce platform that powers the shop.

There's a surprising amount of overlap between my climatology work and this side project. Growing conditions, heat stress, hardiness zones — it all connects back to climate and weather data. The same WBGT and microclimate expertise I apply professionally helps me understand when to ship plants, what grows where, and how to advise customers on care.
